THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY

Revelation 19:9-10 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

In this scripture the Greek word PNEUMA (πνεῦμα) is translated as “spirit“. The word can also be used to denote the VITAL PRINCIPLE or ESSENCE, and in the context of this passage, this is exactly what is meant. The TESTIMONY of JESUS CHRIST is the VITAL PRINCIPLE and ESSENCE of PROPHECY.

All prophecy in the Bible is centred on and revolves around Jesus Christ – the Word of God.

, THE TESTIMONY

The TESTIMONY is the RECORD, the REPORT, EVIDENCE and THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY is the EPITOME, the ESSENCE of what PROPHECY IS ALL ABOUT. It’s all about the RECORD and EVIDENCE of JESUS CHRIST. This includes everything about Him: His pre-existence, His deity, His PREEMINENCE above all things , His authority and Power.

JESUS CREATED ALL THINGS – All things were created BY HIM AND FOR HIM

Colossians 1:16-17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And HE IS BEFORE ALL THINGS, and BY HIM ALL THINGS CONSIST.

JESUS is THE ETERNAL WORD OF GOD

John 1:14 And THE WORD was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld HIS GLORY, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The BIBLE is the WRITTEN WORD OF GOD, and JESUS CHRIST is the living personification of the THE WORD OF GOD.

JESUS is PREEMINENT in and above ALL THINGS

Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

It follows therefore that THE WORD OF GOD, which is PROPHECY, centres on JESUS CHRIST.

The Bible is a book of prophecy from start to finish – it is a RECORD of the FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GODTHE END DECLARED FROM THE BEGINNING (Isaiah 46:9-10 ) – and it’s important that we recognise that as fact. God’s foreknowledge means that we can have complete confidence in Him and His declared plan because He has ULTIMATE SOVEREIGN CONTROL of THE DESTINY OF ALL THINGS.

The RECORD of JESUS CHRIST is the central theme of ALL PROPHECY. All things will eventually come under the POWER and AUTHORITY of JESUS CHRIST. We read …

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. He went on to command His disciples to go forth baptising in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

The New Testament Greek word translated as TESTIMONY in English is MARTURIA (μαρτυρία). Whilst the principal meaning of this word is EVIDENCE GIVEN, it is interesting to note that we obtain our English word “MARTYR” from this Greek word. Of course the English word MARTYR denotes one given in SACRIFICE FOR A CAUSE. JESUS CHRIST gave Himself totally as the ultimate scarifice to secure our salvation. This is one of the principal subjects of Bible Prophecy. Concerning Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf.

We read in Isaiah 53:5-6 …

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
